The city of Oakland is located directly across from San Francisco and is the most diverse and largest community in the East Bay with a population of approximately 440,000 people. There are many neighborhoods, each with its own vibrant character to consider:
 

Rockridge: 

 
An epi-center of walkability with shops, cafes, restaurants, library, parks and easy commute to San Francisco via Rockridge BART. The majority of housing stock include restored and desirable 1920s craftsman homes on tree-lined streets. 
 

Temescal:

 
A cutting edge revival district for local restaurants, shops and art, with a vibrant community. Local highlights include Temescal Alley, Beergardens, Sunday Farmers’ Market, Library (including tool lending) and Mac Arthur BART. Nearby Piedmont Avenue offers an additional selection of walkable shops, cafes and eateries.


North Oakland:

 
Including the above-mentioned areas of Rockridge and Temescal, North Oakland also includes the following neighborhoods: Bushrod, Golden Gate, Paradise Park, Gaskill, Longfellow, Santa Fe, Fairview Park and others. Known as the birthplace of the Black Panther movement, North Oakland is a residential neighborhood with its own mix of local shops, food hall and restaurants, parks, bike lanes and easy access to Berkeley, Emeryville, Downtown Oakland and San Francisco.
 

Lakeshore, Trestle Glen & Crocker Highlands:

 
Bordering the beautiful and historic Lake Merritt, these neighborhoods have an abundance of attractions. The charming theme park Children’s Fairyland, the historic Grand Lake Theater and its beloved Saturdays Farmers’ Market. Lakeshore Ave. leads through local shops and cafes into the gentle residential district’s flume and foothills filled with homes in the Tudor and Storybook styles, as well as Craftsman traditionals.
 

Montclair:

 
Montclair village with its shops, eateries and cafes has a picturesque and charming township feel set just slightly apart from the urban hustle. Two lane winding roads lead into these forested residential hills with views of the surrounding canyons and the Bay. At the peaks there are multiple parks and trails offering cycling, hiking, horseback riding, observatory and science center, archery and epic dog walking.
